Neal Palafox, M.D., M.P.H.

Neal PalafoxDr. Palafox is principal investigator on the Department of Energy/PHRI Special Medical Care Program in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, which provides annual medical examinations and follow up care for possible radiation-related conditions for people exposed to fallout from U.S. nuclear tests in the 1950s. The program is a collaboration of PHRI, Straub Clinic & Hospital, and the Department of Family Practice and Community Health of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, Kaiser Permanente, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands Ministry of Health and Environment. Dr. Palafox is Chair of the Department of Family Practice and Community Health at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, from which he received his medical degree. He also holds a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s degree in biology from Whitman College. He is co-editor of the publication Cross Cultural Caring: a Handbook for Health Care Professionals in Hawaii. He was Medical Director for Preventive Health Services and Public Health in the Republic of the Marshall Islands from 1987-1992. He is member of ‘Ahahui o nä Kauka, Hawaii Medical Association, the Pacific Basin Medical Association and Friends of Imi Ho‘ola.
